Baillie Gifford
Baillie Gifford very kindly agreed to be my major sponsor, for which I am very grateful.
They said:-
"Baillie Gifford is delighted to be the major sponsor of Katie’s expedition to the South Pole.
In 1909, Anglo-Irish explorer Ernest Shackleton and three companions marched across Antarctica, reaching 114 miles from the geographical South Pole before having to turn back. Their journey gave them a place in the record books for the farthest travel south at the time. Almost exactly 100 years after their attempt, Katie has been successful in her attempt to walk the final 114 miles to the South Pole to complete Shackleton's unfinished journey. This gives Katie a place in the record books as the youngest South Pole explorer.
At Baillie Gifford we very much believe in the importance of a child’s future and the role of financial education in this, so they can grow, develop and achieve their goals. We are delighted to help Katie realise her goal of trekking to the South Pole, and we have been helping raise awareness of the expedition to assist Katie in fundraising for her chosen charities.
The expedition also coincided with the 100 year anniversary of Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust, managed by Baillie Gifford. Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust was set up in 1909 to offer mortgages on rubber plantations in the Far East and capitalise on the rapidly increasing demand for rubber after the launch of the Model T Ford in 1908. Baillie Gifford still manages Scottish Mortgage today and the Trust invests in companies all over the world.
Baillie Gifford is an independent investment management firm based in Edinburgh, Scotland. For private investors we offer a product range including investment trust ISAs, Share Plans and Children’s Savings Plans. We now have more than £55 billion* under management and advice for our clients in the UK and throughout the world".
The investment trusts managed by Baillie Gifford are listed on the stock market. As a result, the value of the shares in them, and any income from those shares, is not guaranteed and could go down as well as up. Investors may not get back the amount they invested.
