Expedition

During mid December 2009, we will fly from London to Punta Arenas at the Southern tip of South America.  After a couple of days here to get over the flight we will fly to the Antarctic base camp at Patriot Hills.  We will stay here for a couple of days to acclimatize and pack our sledges, we will also have a few training trips.

Patriot Hills.

We will then fly by twin otter to latitude 88'23S - Shackleton's furthest South.  We will then travel on skis towing our sledges full of supplies.  At night we will sleep under canvas in surprising luxury.   The actual journey is 112 statue miles (97 nautical miles).

On our way we will have to traverse enormous ice fields and glaciers, finally ascending to the polar plateau at almost 10,000 feet.  The wind will always be against us providing a remoresless minus 50 degree wind chill.

Striding South

From here there is nowhere South and we will finally be able to say 'I am an explorer'

We will then be picked up and flown back to Patriot Hills and then home.
I am sure that we will be very tired but also very excited at what we have achieved.
